Nichijou - my ordinary life
A wacky and fun slice of life comedy that delighted me in many ways.
When I was just starting out as an avid manga reader, Nichijou was one of the first manga to really 'stand out' to me. I had seen some clips of the anime online, but that was all I really knew about it. It was 'that manga with the girl who draws Yaoi'. Now I know, it's not exactly that.
It's the 'batshit crazy comedy manga with the funniest humor known to man AND that girl who draws Yaoi.
Nichijou is one of the most surreal manga series I've ever read, with it's unique blend of shonen-style artwork mixed with the most mundane-sounding scenarios imaginable. Not to mention...all of the character designs are really cute!!!
I love professor...
The anime is also a classic, from start to finish. It captures the essence of the manga so well..no wonder the animators ran out of budget for it! Take into account the banger soundtrack - both openings and endings are mainstays in my playlists - and you've got a recipe for success! Although, even with it's crazy scenes, there are still a few (sort of) peaceful chapters out there...like chapter 39.
It perfectly captures my old memories of stormy nights I spent in my bedroom, all alone, trying to sleep...
...remarkably calming for one of the most crazy and surreal comedies of the 2010s...or maybe even the 2020s now that it's come back in Shonen Ace!
Though, I wonder if Vertical (which is part of Kodansha now) will get the rights to publish future volumes...
Let's just hope they aren't locked behind a digital-only release...
But, that's all. 10/10 manga. Very enjoyable!
